Story Guidance: Plot and Structure: This criterion evaluates the coherence and progression of the story. A well-structured plot with a clear beginning, middle, and end, along with a logical sequence of events, is usually favoured.
Character Development: Judges assess the depth and complexity of the characters in the story. Strong characters with distinct personalities, motivations, and growth throughout the story can be important.
Writing Style and Language: The quality of the writing itself is important. Judges look for engaging prose, varied sentence structures, appropriate vocabulary, and effective use of language to convey emotions and atmosphere.
Theme Adherence: Depending on the competition’s theme, judges might evaluate how well the story addresses or reflects the given theme. The story should have a meaningful connection to the theme if one is provided.
Conflict and Resolution: Judges assess the central conflict of the story and how it’s resolved. A strong conflict that keeps readers invested, along with a satisfying resolution, can contribute to a higher score.
